Deauville is described as the St. Tropez of northern France, and like the well known resort in the south the seaside town on the Normandy coast is the home of glamorous pursuits including; a film festival, horse and motor racing and probably one of the most fabulous casinos of the region. Deauville boasts a fine sandy beach, leafy avenues and the town is characterised by some stunning architecture.
Deauville also has a picturesque harbour and every year yachts from all over Europe gather there for Deauville International Week. There are several one-design classes but each year a growing number of cruising yachts have entered the IRC division.
"I want this to be an international regatta," explained regatta organiser, Manfred Ramspacher. "Having a strong IRC fleet means that the event is attractive to yachts from outside France, as there are many IRC yachts racing in Europe that are not too far away from Deauville. Also the primary language of the event information is English, that way competitors from other countries do not feel that there will be a communication problem when they come to Deauville International Week."
The picturesque harbour is right in the centre of town and offers safe and very convenient berthing, and competing yachts can moor up in the public harbour free of charge. Tidal influences conspire to cause racing to take place in the afternoon, allowing competitors to enjoy the delights of Deauville in the morning or perhaps sleep in from a late evening. The town has a huge variety of bars and restaurants; for those interested in self-catering there are some fantastic shops for fresh produce and fish, shellfish, fruit and vegetables are on offer.
The event is organised by Sirius Evénements in partnership with the town of Deauville and the Deauville Yacht Club, la Société des Régates du Havre and la Société des Régates de Caen-Ouistreham.
